Searching for Velux skylight installers in Austin often lands on a national locator or a listing from another metro. That does not tell you who will flash a unit on a Pflugerville shingle roof or a Bee Cave metal panel. Bright Sky ATX is a referral service. It is not a factory dealer claim. The job is to match you with an experienced, insured independent pro who can name the model, the flashing kit, and the roof in front of them.

Residential skylight on an Austin shingle roof

What the search is actually asking

You want a contractor who has installed that maker’s curb-mount or deck-mount kit on a Central Texas roof. You want the right flashing for shingle, standing-seam, or tile. You want someone who will still be the call if the unit leaks after the first wind-driven rain.

A logo on a website is not that confirmation. A Dallas-area pin on a locator map is not that confirmation. An old branch name in another city is not that confirmation.

Velux is one maker. Other makers sell sun tunnels, solar tubes, and glass units that compete for the same opening. If you are still mixing those names, read is a sun tunnel the same as a skylight. This page stays on the installer question for a named glass line.

What to ask on the visit

Ask them to point at the exact model they would order. Curb-mount and deck-mount are different jobs. Curb versus deck is the product split. The installer should say which one this roof can take.

Ask which flashing kit matches this roof. Shingles in Manor are not tile in Barton Creek. Hill Country metal is its own pan. A generic “we do Velux” without a kit name is not a spec.

Ask whether the unit meets City of Austin Climate Zone 2 maxima for skylights: U-factor 0.60 and SHGC 0.28. Confirm those tables with the city and the product sheet. Lots in Cedar Park, Leander, Round Rock, and Hays County are not the Austin desk. Skylight permits in Cedar Park and Leander covers those two Williamson offices.

Ask how hail is handled on the glass spec. The September 24, 2023 storm was the costliest Austin-area hailstorm on record, about $600 million in estimated losses across Travis and Williamson counties, with hail up to about 4 inches in Round Rock. Impact-resistant glass is the follow-on spec, not a dealer badge.

A dealer-number, a certification ID, and a “factory authorized” claim could not be confirmed for Bright Sky ATX or for any unnamed contractor on this page. If a pro says they are authorized, ask them to show the current maker document. Do not take this blog as that document.

How Bright Sky ATX fits

We match homeowners in Travis, Williamson, and Hays counties with independent skylight professionals. The pro you hire installs. We do not. We do not set prices. We do not stock units. See skylight installation.

If the unit you want is actually a tube, start at solar tube installation instead of forcing a glass brand onto a hallway that needs a diffuser.
